Destination Myanmar
Myanmar, better known by it's old name, Burma located in South East Asia is one of the rare places in Asia where the beauty of ancient civilization's architecture is still intact and perfect for exploration.
As a slowly developing country ruled by a military regime, the beauty and satisfaction of exploring the culture and history of the country is far out exciting then the OK tourist facilities in urban cities and limitations and regulations for foreigners travel.
Knowing a local who can guide you and show you the ways to dealing with things will save you a lot of un-necessary headaches. Nobody know the NOs like the locals know. If you don't know a local, then having to pay a tour agent/guide a few extra $$ will be worth well spend, they can accommodate everything from transportation, food, how to get in and out, give you the inside loop on how to save money in the cities.
It's never too early to be prepared, call Myanmar Embassy and find out what you need to apply for visa and make sure to ask what usual waiting time is to get Visa. Atleast give 2-3 months extra, and apply ahead, just in case if there is additional paperwork or proofs necessary, you will have the extra time. This applies to even Myanmar Nationals aboard. You might own the government tax, you might need papers from your school, your job etc.,
Check with your doctor and make sure you have all the proper vaccinations and immunizations before travelling to Myanmar. The last thing you want to worry is your health while you are on vacation especially if you are travelling with kids or elders. So get all the vaccination shots needed for everyone. It won't hurt to stock up on regular cold/headache remedies and your prescriptions as well because it will be hard to get a hand on some prescriptions at remote areas in Myanmar. Especially if you are planning to travel to remote areas.
